The MMF society provides grants and financial support for relevant events organised by its members.
The MMF receives many good quality applications on an ad hoc basis. We have aimed to fund as many as we can subject to a quality threshold. There will be a call twice a year for applications for funding for up to 12 months ahead. These will be advertised through the MMF mailing list by the secretary and will have deadlines on 28 February and 31 August.
How Does The New System Work?
The applicant should
- Download the form from the MMF website and complete the details. (PDF)
- Attach a programme of the event that they intend to hold.
- Ask a member of the committee to act as a sponsor of the proposal (without any financial commitment required).
- Submit the form to the MMF secretary by email.
The total budget for MMF funding will be based on the average of the last three conference surpluses, but it may be enhanced by external funding, or if there is an outstanding case for funding additional activity.
Funding will continue to provide a contribution to fixed costs for 1 day (£1K) or 2 day (£1.5K) events and give support for UK-based academics travel costs (see our travel policy for further details). We cannot fund activities retrospectively.
Decisions about the applications we wish to fund will be made by the chair, treasurer and secretary and other committee members. If the application involves the chair, treasurer or secretary then they will not take part in the decision whether to fund it. Decisions will be sent by email from the secretary to the applicant and the sponsoring committee member within one month of the closing date of the call for applications.
We will favour those applications that have co-funding, high research quality, strong UK academic involvement and that demonstrate policy relevance. Applications must have significant overlap with MMF core research interests.
